HIGH & LOW ALTITUDE FOREST

Pine-oak & Oak forests, 6,420–10,500 ft. The elevation shift creates its own microclimates along the trail.

TAILORED TRAILS

Choose 2, 3, 4, or 5 days in the mountains. Distances, routes, and daily pace are adapted to your experience, interests, and the conditions on the trail.

LOCAL LIFE & MOUNTAIN FLAVORS

Enjoy fresh, home-cooked meals prepared by local families and experience the Sierra beyond the trails — its communities, traditions, landscapes, and everyday mountain life.

STAY IN THE MOUNTAINS

Rest in comfortable community-run cabins surrounded by the forests and mountains of the Sierra Norte.

SUNRISE FROM THE MOUNTAINS

On selected mornings, start before breakfast for an early hike to watch the sunrise from the mountains. After returning to the community, enjoy breakfast before continuing toward the next village.

Example Itinerary

DAY 1

Into the Sierra

We pick you up at your hotel or Airbnb in Oaxaca and drive into the Sierra Norte.

After breakfast in the mountains, we begin the first hike, traveling from one community to another through the forest.

We stop for lunch along the way or after reaching the next community, then settle into your community-run lodging for the night.

DAY 2

VILLAGE TO VILLAGE

After breakfast, we set out on the day's trail toward another mountain community.

The route and distance are adjusted to the group's pace and interests. After the hike, enjoy a local lunch before checking into your accommodation and spending the afternoon in the mountains.

DAY 3

DEEPER INTO THE MOUNTAINS

Wake up and have breakfast before continuing deeper into the Sierra Norte.

We hike from community to community, following forest trails and mountain paths. Lunch is arranged along the way or upon reaching the next village, followed by another night in community-run lodging.

DAY 4

A DAY ON YOUR TERMS

Depending on the group, this can be another full day of hiking or a shorter route with more time to explore the community and surroundings.

For an early start, we can also arrange a sunrise hike before breakfast, then continue toward the next community once we've eaten.

DAY 5

BACK TO OAXACA

After breakfast, we begin the final hike toward the last community of the trip.

After lunch, we leave the mountains and drive back to Oaxaca City.We can drop you off at your hotel, Airbnb, or the airport — wherever you need to go.

Trips can be shortened to 2, 3, or 4 days. The exact route, hiking distance, and communities visited are planned according to your trip.

TREKKING LIGHT

You don't need to carry everything on the trail.

Your main luggage is transported by vehicle to the next community, either with our support driver or with local community transportation. During the hike, you only carry a small daypack with water, layers, snacks, and personal essentials.

FLEXIBLE ROUTES

The mountains don't always follow the plan — and neither do we.

If a section of the route is too demanding because of weather, terrain, or the group's pace, we can transfer to the next community by vehicle and continue with a shorter hike or explore trails around the village instead.

The goal is not to complete a predetermined route. It's to have a great experience in the Sierra Norte.

FAQ

01

Preparation & Difficulty Level

What is the typical hiking distance and difficulty?

Average route is 9–12 km. Distance and difficulty adjust in real time based on the group's pace and weather.

I’ve only hiked on flat trails before. Is this suitable for me?

Mountain trails include uphill and downhill sections and can be physically demanding. Pace adjusts to the group.

I’m an older hiker with experience, but I’m worried about slowing the group down. Can I join?

Yes, if you're active — this isn't a race. Most groups move at a supportive, steady pace. For a slower pace, contact us to arrange it.

What should I bring?

Sturdy hiking boots or trail runners, comfortable clothing layers, and sunscreen. Bring your own reusable water bottle if you can — if you forget it, we'll lend you one.

02

FAMILIES & GROUPS

Is this tour suitable for children?

This route is moderate. Generally suitable for active children ages 12 and up.

Can I bring my family, including younger children?

Yes. Depending on group size, we can often keep it private for your family. Contact us and we'll confirm what's possible for your dates.

03

Logistics & Special Requests

What happens if I can't keep up with the group?

We can suggest a shorter path, have you wait in the vehicle, or let you continue at your own pace while staying in contact by walkie-talkie — depending on the trail.

Can I request a private, very short, or very long hike?

Yes. Let us know in advance so we can prepare the route. Pricing for private groups depends on group size and season — contact us to confirm.

I’m moving to a new hotel or Airbnb and have nowhere to store my luggage; can I bring it with me on the tour?

Yes, it's possible — let us know in advance. Depending on the vehicle for the day, there may be extra space, or we may need to arrange it separately.

Can you pick us up or drop us off at our hotel/Airbnb if it’s outside the city?

Yes, if it's on our way (east of the city). We may ask you to meet us at a nearby, accessible point to save time on the road.

04

Nature & Safety

Will you cancel if I am the only one booked?

No. The tour runs regardless of group size, at the same price.

When is the best time for hiking? Will we see mushrooms?

Dry season (Nov–May) has clear skies. Rainy season (Jun–Oct) makes the forest lush and green, with better chances of spotting wild mushrooms — though sightings aren't guaranteed.
